Obsessed. Where to even start? I do not go anywhere without this copybook sized journal of joy. This diary is absolutely stacked with motivational, thought-provoking and just plain inspirational quotes, poems and proverbs that illuminate each page. At the start of every month there is place to write your goals for the month. Each day has some wondrous words of wisdom along with space to record the most important part of your day. There is a colourful collection of contributors to be found on each page ranging from Paulo Coelho to Ed Sheeran, all of which are bound to set you thinking (maybe even out loud)๐The first quote from the 2018 diary was particularly apt: “Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.” -WB Yeats. Get up and go get this diary STAT, it's a great little game changer and it’s Irish too!
One day I was ambling through Audible looking for some motivational, mood boosting books to listen to in the car when I stumbled upon The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. It is a book that you can read in one fell swoop or fly in and out of it at your leisure. It centres around this one ripple rousing rule which spans 5 seconds. Basically, when you consider doing something, you have a 5 second window before your mind shuts the idea down or sets it alight.
This planner is the self-help sequel that allows you to act on the tips you have gleaned from the book itself. It is absolutely packing when it comes to setting challenges, prioritising tasks and being mindful. It has a particularly bold title which in fairness, I can find absolutely no fault with. Each page has a lovely layout with a place to put your to-do list, your thoughts and main task for the day. It also has a little challenge which you are accountable for when you move onto the next day. It incorporates many of the facets which I believe form the foundation for a healthy existence. These are exercise, healthy eating, gratitude, mindfulness and energetically exiting your comfort zone. Mel’s mantra centres on acting ASAP before that little laze bag lounging in the left side of your brain attempts to deter you. As Mark Twain wisely uttered:
“Life doesn’t consist mainly or even largely, of facts or happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thoughts that is forever flowing through one’s head.”
Be the ship that successfully steers through that storm.

The last journal doesn’t actually exist, rather you get to pick the prettiest purveyor of plain pages you can find and it’s flat out free-styling from there. I have picked up the nicest notebooks in places like Dealz (not an ad๐) and used these to help me start my morning. Each day I write down three things I am grateful for. I then read each one and say thank you in the most genuine way possible after to really feel the gratitude soar through me. This genuinely lifts me and puts everything into perspective for the day. You can get ideas for gratitude posts in the book The Magic (sequel to The Secret) and it also examines how what you put out into the world comes right back at you, like a kind of blessing fuelled boomerang (the old school not the Insta kind). Basically, you are the scriptwriter of your thoughts just like you are the director of your life. Hopefully this trifecta will have a positive effect-a and you will be galloping gratefully through 2019.
